When Jack was having a hard time writing, his BCBA bought him an huge eraser “for really big mistakes” printed on it. Jack didn’t like writing, nor did he like getting an answer marked wrong. Perfection became something that he thought he needed attain – illusive as it was, he didn’t want to make a mistake. I think we all could use an eraser like this one, to remind ourselves that mistakes happen – some are BIG while others are missteps. The reality is, that mistakes are part of it. I am grateful that I came across this eraser at a local shop, as it made me remember. Jack isn’t “white knuckling” his way through life anymore. When he falls, he rises. He has found his way and made peace with it.
